Bethlehem Partnership FOR A Healthy Community Wins First Ever Doral ‘Oral Health Hero’ Award. Sponsored By Doral Dental USA, Recognition Includes $3,000 Grant
Bethlehem, PA- The Bethlehem Partnership for a Healthy Community and its Dental Health Initiative have been awarded the first ever national Oral Health Hero Award sponsored by Doral Dental USA. The award and an accompanying $3,000 grant wasl be presented to representatives from the Bethlehem Partnership’s Dental Health Initiative on Thursday, February 3, 2005 in the Main Lobby of Freedom High School in Bethlehem.
We are proud to recognize the Bethlehem Partnership for a Healthy Community as our very first Doral “Oral Health Hero,” says Michael Pflughoeft, Director of Public Relations for Doral Dental USA. “Their efforts in improving the oral health of the community through innovative programs such as HealthStarII (the mobile dental clinic), the Union Station outpatient dental clinic and the new oral health literacy initiative in the Bethlehem schools are truly heroic.”
“The health literacy initiative is called My Marvelous Mouth,” says Judy Celinas, manager for Network Dental Health Initiatives, St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network. Although the Bethlehem Partnership’s Dental Health Initiative has always included oral health education programs, the need to prevent oral disease promoted the idea of consolidating the existing programs and integrating oral health education into the Bethlehem Area School District curriculum. After developing a curriculum, planning and scheduling, the My Marvelous Mouth Oral Health literacy program entered the school district in the fall of 2004. The program uses a large number of oral health educational handouts that were developed by Doral Dental USA. Reaching 4500 children annually, it is hoped that the youngest students may experience the entire program during their school career in the district.
About half of the children that the Bethlehem Partnership serves are Doral members through their clients: Keystone Mercy Health Pan, American Mercy Health Plan and Health Partners.

Oral Health Heroes - A Doral Dental USA Recognition Program
