Medicaid and SCHIP
Partnering with States
DentaQuest administers Medicaid and SCHIP dental benefits on behalf of 7 state agencies. We are the sole third-party administrator for dental carve-out programs in Illinois (1999), Tennessee (2002), Virginia (2005), Massachusetts (2007), Idaho (2007), Maryland (2009), and South Carolina (beginning in 2010). In those states where dental programs have been in operation for at least one year, we have been able to significantly increase the number of program beneficiaries receiving dental care, as well as the number of dentists participating in the program. The following chart illustrates increases achieved in these states.
| State
Program |
Beginning year of contract | # Enrollees | Beginning # of dental providers | Current # of dental providers |
| Illinois | 1999 | 2,419,782 | 869 | 2391 |
| Tennessee | 2002 | 734,959 | 386 | 931 |
| Virginia | 2005 | 774,932 | 620 | 1155 |
| Massachusetts | 2007 | 1,151,142 | 600 | 1625 |
| Idaho | 2007 | 129,137 | 476 | 620 |
I believe there's no other state in our nation with a better program than we have here in Tennessee.

We have been administering government dental programs since 1993, and data amassed over that time period serve data as a blueprint for action. We implement dental programs that address the distinct needs of all program stakeholders: states are assured that program dollars are prudently spent, beneficiaries enjoy easy access to dentists, and dentists receive strong administrative support which leads to the consistent delivery of high quality dental care.
